116th FAI General Conference 2022: Highlights

145 registered participants joined the 116th FAI General Conference which was held online between 1-3 November 2022.

This was the third FAI General Conference consecutively held online, and 78 delegates from 52 members and 12 commissions representatives.

The conference took place over three days and included the annual FAI Awards, broadcast in an online video on Tuesday 1, the first day of the conference. The video remains accessible online.

Red Bull co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz

Dietrich Mateschitz - the co-founder of Red Bull - died last weekend aged 78 after battling a long illness. FAI joins the air sports community in expressing condolences to Mateschitz’s family, friends and colleagues.

The Austrian businessman created the well-known energy drinks company in the 1980s and the brand went on to sponsor many sports teams and events. As a huge fan of motor sports, he purchased a Formula One car racing team in 2004 and went on to enjoy incredible success.

FAI Fly Clean webinar series starts next week

The FAI Fly Clean webinar series begins on 19 October 2022. These webinars are hosted by the FAI Anti-Doping Manager who will introduce and explain key points about anti-doping in air sports alongside guest speakers.

Three seminars will be held via Zoom and are open to anyone in the air sports community. The aim is for athletes, event organisers, team coaches, even family of junior competitors to find out more about the FAI Fly Clean programme and understand the rules, rights and responsibilities related to clean sport.

Webinar 19 October: Introduction to Fly Clean

The FAI Fly Clean webinar series begins on Wednesday 19 October 2022 with an ‘Introduction to Fly Clean’. Hosted by Kamila Vokoun Hajkova, FAI’s dedicated Anti-Doping Manager, the webinar will outline the importance of fair play in air sports, and the role of the FAI anti-doping programme with regards to how testing affects athletes’ routines and helps to embed positive values within their sport.
