France takes the gold at the Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett 2017

The winners of the 61st Coupe Aéronautique Gordon Bennett 2017 said they were “overjoyed” to be awarded their FAI gold medals at a ceremony in Fribourg, Switzerland on Saturday 16 September 2017.

French pilots Vincent Leys and Christophe Houver won the famous gas-balloon race over the weekend of 8-10 September 2017, and had made the long journey back to Fribourg to accept their medals.

Leys said: “Winning the Gordon Bennett Cup 2017 is a dream come true.”

Mikhail Mamistov wins third gold at FAI World Aerobatic Championships

Mikhail Mamistov reigns supreme at 29th FAI World Aerobatic Championships in South Africa.

Russia’s Mikhail Mamistov has been crowned FAI World Aerobatic Champion for an incredible third time after a hard-fought competition in South Africa.

The legendary Aerobatics pilot won the Gold Medal at the 29th FAI World Aerobatic Championships in Malelane, South Africa, after a competition that lasted a week, from 9 - 17 September 2017.

NAC proposals to 2018 Plenary Agenda are welcome!

Dear National Air Club officials,

We remind you that December 4th, 2017 is the deadline for sending NACs’ proposals that are supposed to be voted at the 2018 CIVL Plenary. Please do not to miss it!

Proposals for the amendments to Section 7 will be added to Plenary Agenda and published on the website on December 19, 2017. Before that, the proposals should be reviewed by the CIVL Bureau and a relevant Committee. They may ask you questions or suggest corrections. Please be available for any exchange with them between December 4th and 19, 2017.

First Category Events - Time to Bid!

We remind you that December 1st, 2017 is the deadline for FAI Category 1 bids to be presented at the 2018 CIVL Plenary. Please do not miss it!

New FAI Swoop Freestyle World Championships announced

A new FAI Swoop Freestyle World Championships will see its first event in August this year, following a new collaboration between the FAI and a specialist sports company, A. Sports.

The high-impact, adrenalin-fuelled discipline of Freestyle Canopy Piloting is known as Swooping, and involves parachutists flying at high-speed across a ‘Swooping Pond’ to score points based on style and execution.
