Lilienthal's legendary 25m gliding 'hop' in 1891 is seen as the beginning of human flight, and his further exploration into the wing profiles of storks gave him the intention to investigate a model with flapping wings; sadly never realised because of his untimely death.

'Young Guns' at the US National Junior Championship, Texas

In 1978 a partnership between Longview, Texas balloonist Dr. Bill Bussey and the managers of the newly opened Longview Mall launched “The Great Texas Balloon Race.” To some it may have seem presumptuous for a never before held event to be called “Great” but in its 44-year history this annual gathering of balloonists from across the USA has more than proven the early hyperbole was well placed.

3d FAI PG Acro Worlds launched in Friuli, Italy

The 3d FAI Paragliding Aerobatics Championships have launched on July 9, in the town of Trasaghis in Friuli Venezia Giulia in Italy. The event is organized by  Aero Club Lega Piloti,  Aero Club Blue Phoenix  and Volo Libero Friuli ASD. Today was the official training day and July 11 to 16, 2021 will be the contest flying days. The prize-giving ceremony is planned for July 17, 2021. 

UPDATE - 2021 FAI World Parachuting Championships - Mondial

June 19th was, indeed, a very sad day for Russian Skydiving as a tragic aircraft accident occurred at the Tanay Drop Zone on that day, and four lives were lost.  The FAI and IPC wish to extend their heartfelt thoughts and condolences to everyone involved.   The Mondial will go on as planned, and Bulletin 3 will be issued by July 1st, at the latest.   Heads of Delegation will be advised of a Zoom Meeting in the coming days, to receive further information.

World Hang Gliding in Krushevo Postponed to 2023

In the last few days, the national aero clubs or delegated authorities of Australia, Austria, Brazil, Italy, Great Britain and the USA have informed the organisers and the CIVL that they do not intend to participate in the coming World Hang Gliding Championships to start on July 18, 2021, in Krushevo, North Macedonia. They all underline their concerns about the pandemic and the consequences on travel restrictions for persons and equipment.
