FAI Aeromodelling Commission (CIAM)

The 2024 CIAM Plenary Meeting took place in Lausanne from 12 to 13 April. It was the first time the meeting had been held in person since 2019. The format was slightly different as all the Technical Meetings were organised before the Plenary using Zoom, which enabled more interested persons to participate; therefore, the Plenary was attended mostly by the Delegates.

Elections

It was an election year, and after the vote, most of the Bureau members from the previous two years retained their positions:

Two 10-year-olds have been announced as winners of the 2023 Rookie Project, in the indoor and outdoor flight categories. The international online contest pits under 16s against one another as they aim to achieve the longest flight time with model aircraft which fit the competition rules. 

The rules for the new F4K-Class Scale Helicopters have been published. This will give new impetus to the popular classes where building and constructing are combined with flying.

The 2024 FAI F1D World Championships for Indoor Model Aircraft took place from 23 to 26 March 2024 in Slanic Prahova, Romania.

During the competition, officials from the FAI, organisers, and participating teams paid tribute to the late Aeromodelling legend Jim Richmond, who made significant contributions to this particular class.

In this issue of CIAM Flyer, Hans Langenhagen, a member of the CIAM Education Sub-committee and CIAM Technical Expert Education, presents the "Full-Day Program." This booklet highlights the successful collaboration between Modellflug Club Rossendorf and a high school in Dresden over several years.

Huge congratulations to our candidate Luisa Rizzo of Italy, the first runner-up in The World Games Athlete of the Year 2023 poll. With over 50,000 votes, this represents the most outstanding performance by an Air Sports athlete in The World Games Athlete of the Year poll! The FAI is thrilled with the visibility Luisa has generated for drone racing and air sports overall. Thank you to Luisa and all those who voted for her!
