The agility of the dragonfly in flight is an astonishing thing to behold. Certainly, the biomechanical facilities of this particular insect were an inspiration to Etienne Oehmichen, the French engineer who set FAI’s very first helicopter record.
Every year, the Aero Club of Czech Republic organises a gathering to announce the best air sports athletes of the previous year. This year, the 2023 athletes were honoured by some very special guests – including Petr Pavel, the President of the Czech Republic – in a glittering ceremony on 24 February broadcast on live television.
The annual meeting of the FAI Hang Gliding and Paragliding Commission (CIVL) took place in Mungyeong, South Korea on February 26-29, 2024. 16 delegates holding 14 proxies participated in the meeting. They were greeted by Mr Markus Haggeney - the FAI Secretary General, Mr Park Chan Duk - the President of South Korea NAC and Mr Gin Seok Song - the President of the Korean Paragliding Association KPGA, which hosted the meeting.
The FAI Microlight and Paramotor Commission (CIMA) had a successful Plenary in Kaunas, Lithuania, from 22 to 24 February. The main focus was on developing the sport for the future, and significant progress was made with several interesting projects, including the awarding of the 2025 World Paramotor and Microlight Championships to France and the creation of a new type of award.
The FAI General Air Sport Commission (CASI) invites all individuals who are currently officiating or will be officiating in FAI events to register for the 2024 CASI Webinar: Training for FAI Events Officials.
Attendees will take away information that will ensure the smooth-running and efficiency of FAI events. They will be equipped to tackle any challenges that may arise during the event management process. Q&A sessions will provide the opportunity to raise any event specific concerns.
