The Opening Ceremony of the 10th FAI World Paragliding Accuracy Championship was held in the evening of September 8th on the square of Vršac. Thanks to the big efforts by the NAC of Serbia and local organizer, and strong support from the local authority, this event now has officially started.
FAI has granted a Gold Air Medal to Canadian-US inventor Domina Jalbert, whose work on canopies and multi-cell wing type aerial devices was a key to modern paragliding, kiting and sky diving. The award ceremony will take place on December 05, 2019. Domina Jalbert was nominated to this highest FAI award by the proposal of CIVL and IPC.
The story:
Five hundred flights, five classes, 11 tasks, 41 teams – these are the key numbers of the 15th FAI European Microlight Championships, held in Ignalina, Lithuania.
The competition finished on Saturday 17 August with the award ceremony at the airfield. Pilots and crew from eight countries competed during the week for the best results in navigation, precision and economy tasks.
On July 17th and 18th 2019, Air Sports Group (ASG) in collaboration with the General Sports Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia hosted the inaugural Swoop Freestyle International Open in downtown Jeddah.
The first ever professional skydiving event in the Kingdom gathered 18 competitors and 13 display pilots from 15 countries worldwide. All eyes were on the Jeddah skies, as the competitors descended in their signature aggressive parachutes, showcasing once again the high level of skill and technical knowledge required to master the new high-impact sport.
In modern paragliding competitions, such as the 16th FAI World Paragliding Championship in Krushevo, North Macedonia, there is a whole heap of technology. Forgetting the technology inside the cutting edge wing designs the pilots are flying, they have a whole host of instrumentation on their laps.
Aerobatics with radio-controlled model aircraft is challenging in more ways than one.
For one, it requires extensive technical skills and great care when installing the radio control and mechanical transmission to the aircraft's control surfaces. Installation of the highly optimised propulsion units – whether combustion engines or electric motors – requires extensive experience and technical understanding. The second major challenge is flying itself: aerobatics is an extremely demanding sport requiring high levels of concentration!
