Today 22d Hang gliding Class 1 World Championship started with the first competition task of 86 km race to the goal. Successful launch of 121 participants from Meduno takeoff took place at 13.15 local time with 2 start gates opening at 14.30 and 15.00 respectively. Weather conditions and several restricted airspaces were the main challenges faced by the pilots.
In June 2019 FAI has received both World and European records claim of 232,68 km made by Stefan Lauth (Germany) on Bion 2 by Nova. The claim is classified as Free Distance around a triangle course and the route runs across Grente (Italy) - Kals - Rinau - St Kassian - Grente (Italy).

Calling all drone racing fans! The FAI has today released a joint statement – in conjunction with the Aero Sports Federation of China (ASFC) – revealing the latest details about the next edition of the FAI World Drone Racing Championships.
The statement, which confirms the event will take place between November 2019 and early 2020, also includes further information for all those hoping to take part.

The FAI would like to thank Asian Games 2018 Secretary General, Air Marshal Eris Herryanto of the Indonesian Armed Forces, for his recent visit to the federation’s Head Office in Lausanne, Switzerland.
During his meeting with FAI Secretary General Susanne Schödel, the Air Marshal expressed his appreciation of the cooperation between the FAI and the organising committee behind last year’s Asian Games in Indonesia, and said how pleased he was to see the popularity of air sports growing so quickly in Asia over recent years.
Aviation specialists gathered at Sion Airport in Switzerland today to witness the unveiling of a new zero-emission electric airplane – the Bristell Energic – developed by technology company H55, a Solar Impulse project spin off.
FAI Sports & Events Director Markus Haggeney attended the event to see the fully electric plane, which will now be used for pilot training in flight schools, complete its first flight.
